My approach
My therapeutic approach is an integration of globally recognised modalities that include Relational Psychodynamics, Humanistic and Existential, as well as specialist trauma therapies, such as EMDR. Thus, in discussion with you, we will lay bare precisely what your hopes and wished-for outcomes are and, together, make a plan on the best integration or combination of approaches to work with. As every client is unique and has a unique history - our work will be tailored to your unmet needs or particular trauma.
Trauma
Obviously, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues are frequent visitors to my practice, but I also offer a range of evidence-based techniques and high-intensity interventions: these are often trauma-based experiences, whether a single event such as a traumatic bereavement or familial histories of domestic abuse, sexual abuse or other aspects of neglect.
The Sessions
In terms of the sessions themselves, as a relational therapist, I use the therapeutic relationship itself as a means of better understanding and making sense of the world that you live in. Together, we will work out how to make the changes you want to achieve. I offer a space where you can feel listened to, understood and accepted in a non-judgemental environment. I am passionate about the therapeutic process and the re-empowering experience that it provides.
Your History
As children, adolescents or even young adults, we are pretty powerless in the face of caregivers and frequently experience real victimhood. Negotiating the aftermath of that difficult childhood space can leave us with many deficits in our relational blueprint and a desire to disconnect from others or even act destructively towards ourselves. My therapy aims to help you break those chains and learn how to build creative and healthy relationships with others but, most poignantly of all, with yourself.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapeutic approach designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. It is particularly effective for those struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and deeply rooted emotional wounds stemming from attachment-based trauma.
How EMDR Works
EMDR focuses on helping the brain reprocess distressing memories that may feel “stuck” and continue to trigger emotional pain. By using bilateral stimulation—such as guided eye movements—EMDR helps to reduce the intensity of these memories, allowing you to integrate them in a way that feels manageable and less disruptive to daily life. To put more simply, experiences that have been bothering us for a very long time and we have been unable to come to terms with and likely have caused serious problems within our relationships can now, over a short period of treatment, finally find a place to rest (or finally be filed away in a safe place).
My Approach to EMDR
I am a qualified EMDR trauma specialist and incorporate this highly effective therapy into my work when appropriate. I have extensive experience treating PTSD and complex attachment-based trauma, offering tailored support to meet each individual's unique needs. As a registered member of the EMDR Association UK, I adhere to the highest professional standards, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for your healing journey.
